Magazines - April 2018 [2] - Duet, Potato, WinkUp - NEWS final issues

Still catching up.

And maybe I've been dragging my feet because with these issues we reach the end of an era.
 
These are the final issues of Duet, Potato and WinkUp that feature NEWS as a regular group. In that particular Japanese euphemism they have 'graduated' from these magazines as a group. As a mark of that Duet has a final manga, Potato gave them a cover and poster, and WinkUp had a poster.
 
So unless something truly extraordinary happens these will be my last scans of these magazines.

This truely is the end of an era. The mags were something reliable to look forward to every month and with NEWS' history, you can't overestimate the importantness of "something reliable".

however i'm kind of 'new' in this fandom, what does it mean by 'finals/graduated'? does it mean that the group won't be appearing in these magazines again? why?

Hi. It's a very Japanese thing to say someone has 'graduated' when their time is up and they will no longer appear in something - a group, a tv show, magazines.

In the case of these magazines - the main 5 monthly magazines he feature the Johnnys groups do have a use by date. It depends on the age of the members these days, it used to be the age of the group. These days members turning 30 is the trigger point.

NEWS was the oldest group still appearing as a group. Other groups with older members like Arashi or K8 or Kat-tun haven't been appearing as a group for some time. Individual members will still appear for various things, but not NEWS as a group. These magazines are aimed at younger groups and younger fans.

But it's not the end. They will still appear in other magazines when there is a new single or some other event, it just won't be every month.

It's funny to think about them being too old for these magazines. I remember buying them in person for the first time just for them. It makes me feel old too. Thank you for sharing.
